*Douglas F. Roth, MM, MA, SLP-CCC, tenor, voice instructor, speech pathologist and singing voice specialist holds degrees in vocal performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and Arizona State University and a master’s degree in speech pathology from Indiana University. He has additional training from the Opera Theater of Lucca program in Lucca, Italy and was selected by the faculty at the College-Conservatory of Music to receive a full scholarship for study in Germany upon his graduation. His primary teachers have included Lee Cass, Lorenzo Malfatti, David Adams, Claudia Catania and Judy May. He is currently completing his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh under the direction of Dr. Katherine Verdolini with an emphasis on the cognitive aspects of skill acquisition.
In addition to serving as a voice clinician and singing voice specialist at the University of Pittsburgh Voice Center, he continues to sing professionally on the concert stage and maintains an active voice studio. He is frequently asked to teach master classes and to give presentations concerning vocal health and singers’ wellness. His current research interests involve both the vocal consequences of environmental allergies, and motor learning styles in regards to vocal pedagogy. Mr. Roth frequently gives workshops in the application of motor learning principles for both vocal rehabilitation and singing instruction, and was most recently seen at the 2008 Voice Foundation Annual Symposium in Philadelphia and the National Association of Teachers of Singing 50th National Conference in Nashville.
